The Red Devils Set to Secure German Striker Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich
The Women's Super League club are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.
A Marquee Signing for the WSL Side
The forward, with half a year remaining on her contract, is known as a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. Her arrival will be seen as a major signing for the WSL team.
Departure from Munich was expected after she was seen holding back emotions while applauding the German club’s supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
It was reported in late December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its top strikers. According to multiple sources, the formalities for the move have now been completed.
Reliable Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Forward Line
The 28-year-old’s signing is expected to provide a major boost to the team's forward line. She has been remarkably reliable with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.
- For seven straight seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She claimed the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Building Momentum at Old Trafford
The acquisition of the German international comes at a time when the club appear to be building momentum.
Their recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the mid-season window has brought additional business:
- The acquisition of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since joining in 2023.
On the midfielder's extension, a club official stated: “She has become a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill allows her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”
Lundkvist, who has joined from a club in the NWSL, added: “You can feel how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
