Following multiple episodes of suspense, schemes and sabotage, The Celebrity Traitors concludes with a thrilling end
Spoiler alert - This article discloses details from The Celebrity Traitors finale
Throughout the season, viewers witnessed eliminations, betrayals, intense glares, and an unforgettable incident that cut through all suspense.
However on the final evening, the final winner of the inaugural Celebrity Traitors was revealed.
Out of nineteen participants, just a handful remained: Deceivers and faithfuls competing for the winnings.
Soon, the competition tightened to just three: the final players.
Ultimately, comedian Alan Carr emerged as the champion, in a shocking outcome that went viral and left him emotional.
"It's been tearing me apart, I'm so sorry," he declared, revealing to the remaining faithfuls that he'd always been one of the deceivers. "I'm an awful human being."
"You did brilliantly," they comforted him. "It's all right."
Online platforms immediately exploded with this development. "Most awful traitor ever being the best traitor ever," wrote one user.
"It couldn't have been a better conclusion," stated a different person, while a third described it as "the television highlight of the year."
The organization he selected, Neuroblastoma UK, gets to keep the entire winnings, with the total amount reaching £87,500.
Alan Carr's transformation from giggle liability to cold-hearted killer was one of the standout highlights of the season.
But his win still shocked viewers surprised, as noted by industry observers.
"The thought of him, of all people, pulling off an expert performance in deceit felt just as probable as him maintaining a straight face through one of his own punchlines."
During follow-up conversations, the other contestants summed up the reasons nobody had ever really suspected him.
"He might have come down to breakfast in a green cloak and I still wouldn't have thought he was a traitor. His humor distracted me," one participant said.
"Most people didn't target him because how does one vote for a person so charming?" asked a different contestant.
The winner stated he had "absolutely loved" his time on the show.
"I'd like to do it again... I doubt it would be successful again!"
Thursday evening's episode was lengthened to 70 minutes on the network. There was a different start than usual, as every celebrity were aware who would appear at the breakfast table.
Viewers heard particularly inspiring, and very un-Traitors-esque soundtrack, as we recapped key scenes from every remaining player's time in the castle.
As ever, the comedian provided unforgettable quotes.
"Let's face it, I began the competition a bit of a nervous wreck. I've thrown close allies under the bus, I've eliminated beloved figures in plain sight. Apparently I'm more deceptive and traitor than I believed."
Meanwhile, a different player commented that being in the final was "significantly more pressure than playing for a national team", while someone else said he was "totally surprised" to have made it so far.
Early on in the episode, various contestants seemed to be attempting to become the fashion standout of the competition, taking over from the previously eliminated fashionable contestant.
Carr emerged at the morning meal looking like a 1950s US chat show host in patterned burgundy attire, later switching into a bejewelled white suit.
However, he got out-jacketted by a fellow player's maroon velvet tuxedo. Impressive style.
Following this was the competition, with the remaining contestants boarding a train named - of course - The Deceivers' Railway.
The challenge saw them destroying images of former contestants. Have sympathy for a player who managed to get hit on the head THREE times by the cover of a heavy wooden box.
Soon after, it was time for the elimination discussion.
The deceivers did a pinky promise in advance, pledging to support each other. "We've progressed significantly, I won't betray him," said a player, while the other simply laughed.
However, one adhered to his promise. But, managing to stay under the radar for the majority of the competition, their partner still got the most votes.
The remaining traitor looked like to be experiencing significant distress to be the final deceiver remaining. "Being alone, I feel terrified," he said. "I'm a loose cannon, a rudderless ship."
Online platforms and viewers were equally disappointed.
"I hoped against this contestant to be banished. An endearing deceiver," commented an observer.
"Your legacy will remain in Traitors history," wrote a different viewer.
But there was no time to dwell on their elimination. Soon, the game reached the final stage - this being the moment everyone anticipated.
The final four stood over the ceremonial fire. Meanwhile, the partnership collapsed, precisely when it mattered the most, in an absolutely shocking development.
One contestant was painfully banished - following a surprising decision from their ally, who betrayed them.
"This pains me to be betrayed at the final moment like that," said the eliminated player. Later, we learned that when they message, the eliminated contestant refers to their former ally by a betrayer's name.
Ultimately, just three players were still competing: the final trio.
One player, looking incredibly smug, voted to end the game. So did another, and it all came down to the final participant, who made the identical choice - resulting in the deceiver emerged victorious.
For observers, the moment where remaining contestants comforted the winner was "compelling television". "I anticipate it will be a contender for memorable moment at television honors," they commented.
Happily, the winner soon recovered from his emotional outburst, and was able to enjoy his victory.
"Such an emotional journey. I thought I was terrible at deception, I had no poker face and now I stand a winner," the winner said.
And he even joked about that infamous murder - his close ally during the initial stages - by reaching over the presenter in the final scene and touching her cheek.
"There's something on your face," he said, with his characteristic laugh.
The last few weeks of celebrity gossiping, scheming and the occasional unexpected moments may feel like a bizarre fantasy. Yet it actually all happen. And we will miss it.
