Democratic officials expressed outrage after former President Donald Trump charged a group of Democratic representatives of being "betrayers" and asserted they should be arrested and sentenced "through capital punishment" following their publication of a contentious video.

The Content That Sparked the Controversy

The clip, shared on Tuesday, includes six Democratic elected officials who formerly served in military or security roles.

"As we did, you all swore an vow to defend and support this founding document," the representatives stated in the brief video. Party Officials React

Following Trump's comments on Thursday, Top Democrats released a combined announcement censuring the comments.

"Political violence has no place in the United States," they wrote. "Elected officials who appeared in the video all served our country with tremendous national pride and distinction. The representatives who participated in the video also released a statement.

"We serve as former service members and national security professionals who care for this country and made an pledge to protect and support the constitution of the United States," they stated.
